Day to Day

The Director of AI and Automation will lead the vision, development, and execution of initiatives that harness AI and automation to streamline processes and improve efficiency across the company. This role is about optimizing how we use existing systems, tools, and data to work smarter.
Duties And Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Build and lead Subtext’s AI & automation roadmap across development, acquisitions, capital markets, asset management, and operations.
  • Partner with teams to identify pain points and apply AI/automation to simplify workflows and reduce manual effort.
  • Develop and deploy tools using platforms such as OpenAI’s GPT/Anthropic’s Claude, Zapier/n8n, etc.
  • Create AI/NLP workflows to automate underwriting, due diligence, investor reporting, internal reporting and project tracking.
  • Implement agent-based systems for process automation in leasing, property management, and investor reporting.
  • Consolidate and structure internal data (files, emails, transcripts, models) to train and enhance internal AI tools.
  • Implement ETL/ELT pipelines to consolidate data from disparate sources (property management systems, financial systems, market data).
  • Build dashboards and business intelligence solutions that provide actionable insights.
  • Evaluate and manage AI/automation vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Serve as an internal champion for AI and automation, driving education, adoption, and process integration.
  • Support organizational adoption of AI and automation through structured change management practices.

Expectations

  • Proven experience implementing automation and AI solutions in business environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading change management initiatives and driving adoption of new technologies.
  • Strong understanding of workflow automation, process optimization, and AI applications.
  • Hands-on experience with current AI Tools and LLMs (Claude, ChatGPT, Zapier, Cursor, n8n), ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data workflows (ETL/ELT)
  • Proficiency with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, Looker)
  • Strong collaborator with the ability to translate business needs into practical automation solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Background in finance, real estate, or capital markets workflows is a plus.
  • Background in consulting with experience in advising organizations on technology or process transformation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or similar – business, finance, or real estate experience is a plus – MBA, MS in Real Estate, or Finance is a bonus but not required.
  • 5+ years in product, automation, or real estate tech roles.
  • Track record of successfully deploying AI/automation solutions that improved efficiency and outcomes.
  • Experience or exposure to finance workflows, models, or capital markets preferred.
  • Familiarity with real estate workflows: underwriting, development, construction, leasing and operations– Bonus: experience in PropTech, REITs, or real estate private equity.
  • Exceptional communicator across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong builder/operator mindset with an ability to execute while also thinking strategically.
