Day to Day

The Director of AI, Automation & IT will lead the vision, development, and execution of AI and automation initiatives while also overseeing general IT operations and systems at Subtext. This role combines technical expertise, strategic insight, and operational understanding to identify pain points, develop solutions, manage core IT infrastructure, and drive technology adoption across departments. Technical skills needed include:

  • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, familiarity with web development frameworks. 
  • Strong SQL skills: experience with ETL/ELT tools (Airflow, Matillion, dbt, Fivetran, Coalesce etc.) 
  • Experience with data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, DataBricks, Redshift) 
  • Hands-on experience with current AI Tools and LLMs (Claude, ChatGPT, Zapier, Cursor, n8n), ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) 
  • Proficiency with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, Looker) 
  • Strong knowledge of major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) 
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, version control (Git), and containerization 
  • Experience with enterprise systems, networking, and security protocols 

Expectations

  • Build and lead Subtext’s AI & automation roadmap across development, acquisitions, capital markets, asset management, and operations.
  • Lead development of custom applications and tools using Python, JavaScript, and other relevant languages.
  • Implement integration strategies for connecting legacy systems with modern cloud solutions.
  • Develop and deploy tools using platforms like OpenAI’s GPT/Anthropic’s Claude models, Zapier/n8n, etc.
  • Create AI/NLP workflows to automate underwriting, due diligence, investor reporting, internal reporting, and project tracking.
  • Design and implement agent-based systems for process automation in leasing, property management, and investor reporting.
  • Design and build enterprise data architecture with appropriate data models and schemas.
  • Consolidate and structure internal data (files, emails, transcripts, models) to train and enhance internal AI tools.
  • Develop ETL/ELT pipelines to consolidate data from disparate sources (property management systems, financial systems, market data).
  • Oversee the development of dashboards and business intelligence solutions.
  • Manage vendor relationships for core technology platforms and ensure proper integration.
  • Oversee day-to-day IT operations, including systems administration, hardware/software provisioning, user support, and cybersecurity in collaboration with outside vendors.
  • Ensure IT systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with the company’s growth strategy.
  • Serve as an internal evangelist for technology, driving education, adoption, and process integration.
  • Evaluate and manage AI and IT vendors, freelancers, or contractors as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or similar – business, finance, or real estate education is a plus – MBA, MS in Real Estate, or Finance is a bonus but not required.
  • 5+ years in product, automation, IT systems, or real estate tech roles.
  • Background in AI, Data Engineering, Data Architecture, Data Science, or IT Infrastructure.
  • Experience or exposure to finance workflows, models, or capital markets preferred.
  • Has built of deployed AI/LLM solutions using OpenAI/Anthropic APIs or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with real estate workflows: underwriting, leasing, IC memos, development pipeline management – Bonus: experience in PropTech, REITs, or real estate private equity.
  • Strong builder/operator mindset.
  • Exceptional communicator across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Capable of managing IT systems and business critical tools.
  • Understand risk, process control, security, and organizational scaling.
